Nadat ik jullie vorige week onze avonturen in Washington State heb laten zien is het nu tijd om het eerste deel van onze tijd in Oregon met jullie te delen.
Oregon is op zijn eigen manier net zo mooi als Washington. Daar waar Washington echt heel ‘bossig’ was heeft Oregon meer platteland en een prachtige kustlijn met uitgestrekte stranden (meer hierover in deel twee).

Ik begin dit artikel met wat ‘willekeurige’ foto’s van Oregon.

After I showed you our adventures in Washington State last week, it is now time to share  the first part of our time in Oregon.
Oregon is equally as beautiful as Washington, but in it’s very own way. Washington appeared to be more forest-y, whereas Oregon also has a lot of countryside and many beautiful beaches to offer (which I will show you in part two). I will start this post off with some ‘random’ pictures of Oregon State.

Heel typisch voor Oregon is de ‘DutchBros’ koffieketen. Met Hollandse cliché’s en al!
Very typical for Oregon is the DutchBros Coffee chain. Yes, with Dutch cliché’s and all!

We kwamen deze lieve alpaca’s onderweg tegen. Extra punten voor wie de chagrijnige lama in hun midden weet te spotten.
We encountered some lovely alpaca’s while driving. Bonus for those who spot the grumpy llama in their midst.

‘Covered Bridges’. Net als DutchBros een typisch ‘Oregonees’ verschijnsel. Hoewel de meeste van deze bruggen niet open zijn voor verkeer zijn ze wel heel sprookjesachtig.
Covered Bridges. Just like DutchBros, the covered bridges are a typically ‘Oregonesque’ feature. Although most of them are not open to traffic anymore, they are very fairy-tale like.

Deze Diner. Dit is waarschijnlijk de meest Amerikaanse eetgelegenheid waar we zijn geweest. Hij lag ‘in the middle of nowhere’ en was de enige plek waar je kon eten binnen een straal van 100 mijl.
This Diner. It was probably the most ‘typically American’ venue we’ve visited. It was in the middle of nowhere and it was the only place to eat in a hundred mile radius.

Crater Lake National Park.
Oh jee. Ik heb nog nooit zo’n kleur blauw gezien als het water betreft. Dit meer ligt in de krater van een vulkaan en is adembenemend mooi, evenals het park dat er omheen ligt.

Oh my. I have never seen such a shade of blue in water before. This lake is situated in a volano crater and it is absolutely stunning, as is the park that is situated around it.

Columbia River Gorge.
Als je van watervallen houdt is deze ‘gordel’ de ‘place to be’. Dit gebied omvat een scala aan rivieren en watervallen. Hoewel het echt een sprookje is moet je de hordes toeristen wel af en toe wegdenken, bijvoorbeeld bij Multnomah Falls (hieronder afgebeeld op de twee laatste foto’s).

Columbia River Gorge.
If you like waterfalls, this is surely is the place to be. This Gorge offers the most beautiful rivers and waterfalls you can imagine. It’s like a fairytale, altough you do have to wish away the overload of tourist, especially at Multnomah Falls (on the last two picture below).

Mount Hood.
We waren op de (nouja, bijna) top van Mount Hood op het beste moment van de dag om te fotograferen; zonsondergang. Hoewel ik eerst nog even een halfuurtje nodig had om over mijn hoogteziekte heen te komen, wat geen grapje was.

We were at the summit (well, almost) of Mount Hood at exactly the right time for the most beautiful pictures: sunset. Although I needed about half an hour to get over my altitude sickness, which was no joke.

The Astoria Column.
Nog een behoorlijke toeristische trekpleister, maar absoluut de moeite waard. Vanaf de top van de kolom was het uitzicht over Oregon adembenemend. En extra ‘props’ voor John die met zijn ernstige hoogtevrees toch omhoog geklommen is en daarbij bijna in zijn broek scheet.

Another very touristy-place, but well worth it. From the top of the column the view over Oregon was stunning. And props for John, who has serious vertigo, for going up there (and almost shitting his pants).
