Dag lieve Majesteit // Farewell His Majesty

I had planned to publish a first post with a bunch of pictures of your roadtrip today. But then something happened.
Ever since we got back from the U.S we’ve been VERY much looking forward to picking up our little turtles from the reptile hotel. However, when we arrived there this wednesday, we were told that one of our little babies died during our vacation. His Majesty was is hyper active little self one day, until he was dead the next.

John and I are simply devastated. When we dropped them off at the reptile hotel six weeks ago there was never a thought in our minds that we would not get them both back alive. We lost another turtle just two years ago and we never expected to go through this once more so soon.

A lot of people don’t seem to understand this, but we love our turtles like other people love their dogs or cats. No, turtles are not cuddly but they all have a personality that is very much their own. And so did His Majesty. He was hyperative, always hungry and could smash his paws on the watersurface so hard, the water splashed right up to the ceiling. We will miss the chaos in the aquarium, which looks very empty with just little Miepje in there.
We will remember you forever.

Dag lieve Majesteit XXX
