Werkproces: Nieuwe visitekaartjes // Process: New business cards

As you may have read in last week’s Photo Diary, I’ve been working on desiging some new business cards for myself. I’ve been posting some work-in-progress updates on social media and I got the impression that you really liked seeing the process that was behind it. So I decided to share that process with you in full today!

When I started working on the designs, I already had a pretty clear picture in my head of what my new cards were supposed to look like. I wanted to use the confetti-illustrations I’ve made the past few months and I wanted some illustrations from my portfolio on the back of the cards. I also wanted some open space, so I could write a little ‘thank you’-message on it, as I’m used to doing when shipping out orders. These are a lot of demands for such a small card. This is what the first round of designs looked like:

I wasn’t too happy with this first round of designs. I wasn’t able to find illustrations in my portfolio that really matched the colours of the confetti-illustrations on the front (I’m a real colour-nerd, if you hadn’t noticed yet) and I thought it all looked a little forced. So I decided to get rid ofe the portfolio-work and just focus on designing a nice card. If people like the card, they’ll probaby head over to my website to have a look at my portfolio anyway. The next step looked like this:

Drukwerk
Win-win.

Now the back of the card was simply boring, so it only seemed logical to move my personal data to the back of the card, creating more space for the confetti-illustrations.

Drukwerk
I played around with some patterns and there you have it!

I was really excited about receiving my business cards from the printer. You never know if the colours turn out exactly the way you wanted to or if you suddenly see things in print that were not visible on your screen. I was very happy about the print-quality of these cards. I’m SO ready to meet some new people!
