De samenleving is de afgelopen weken in de greep van het Coronavirus en ik denk dat er niemand meer is die kan zeggen dat het hem of haar niet (heeft) (ge)raakt. Kleine ondernemers behoorden tot een van de eerste groepen die klappen vingen. Zo ook ik: in de eerste week van onze ‘intelligente lockdown’ kreeg ik van meerdere partijen bericht dat projecten op een laag pitje werden gezet, dat men minder frequent facturen ging uitbetalen en dat het voortzetten van werkzaamheden onzeker zou zijn.
Maar deze hele nieuwe situatie (waar we Godzijdank met z’n allen in zitten) haalt ook bij heel veel mensen een mooie en creatieve kant naar boven. Iedereen lijkt iets te willen doen om de (mede) kleine ondernemers te steunen. En het mooie is: dat hoeft niet eens geld te kosten. Maar hoe kun je nou precies doen voor kleine ondernemers in deze onzekere tijd?
Als ik voor mezelf spreek, dan kun je natuurlijk een aankoop doen in mijn Etsy shop. Twijfelde je al een tijdje over aanschaf van een item, dan is dit een mooi moment. Wil je me wel financieel helpen, maar hoef je er niet per se een product voor terug, dan kun je me via Ko-fi ondersteunen door een donatie te doen voor de prijs van een (fictieve) kop koffie. Maar je kunt ook een heleboel gratis steun uitdelen; volg me op instagram, like wat van mijn foto’s, deel ze op je eigen feed of in je stories of tip mij en mijn werk eens wanneer iemand denkt over het laten ontwerpen van een nieuw logo/geboortekaartje/kinderboek/whatever.

There is no denying the Corona virus and I think it’s safe to say that there’s nobody out there whose life it has not affected (yet). Small businesses are one of the groups that were hit first by the crisis following the outbreak of the virus. This goes for me too: in the first week of the Dutch lockdown I got a lot of e-mails from business partners saying projects were put off or cancelled or that they would pay invoices less frequently than usual.
But this whole situation that we’re all in together also brings out the best and most creative sides of people. Everyone seems to want to support small businesses in their own special way. And the best thing is: that doesn’t even have to cost a penny. But what is it exactly that you can do to support small businesses in these uncertain times?
When I speak for myself, I’d say now is a good time to make a purchase in my Etsy shop. If there’s this one item you’ve been eyeballing for a while, now is the time to treat yourself. If you do want to support me financially, but don’t want to purchase anything, you can support me by making a donation on Ko-fi. But there’s also a bunch of things you can do that are completely free, like following me on instagram, like some of my photos there, share them in your feed or your stories. Or if you hear somebody talking about having a logo designed or a children’s book illustrated; give me a shout out!
